Inquiry

This terms 1st Inquiry unit is What are the Consequences? it’s about advertising and how it targets adolescents. During this Inquiry unit I have noticed some very smart stratergies to suck people in to buying thier product such as humor, bright colours and catchy tunes and slogans, but the thing that caught my eye the most was misleading advertising, how they can lie to you and get away with it. Some people believe thier lies and just end up disapointed. Doing this Inquiry unit has been really eye opening and I’m beginning to notice advertising more.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning how to write a news report. It was hard for me to get used to writing in third person when you were in the situation to. I wrote mine on LA21 RECIEVE READING ASSIGNMENT, I think I did pretty well with the structure and I was most proud of my lead paragraph. Writing in this form has made me appreciate the newspaper much more.

Choosing a Song for graduation

For our year 7 graduation we have to choose a song that explains us. I found this really hard because I couldn’t think of any songs that explain me. While I was talking to one of my friends she suggested 21st century life by Sam Sparro, I thought it was the perfect song straight away because it does explain me. I don’t think I could live without my ipod, laptop and flatscreen. I love technology and it is a major part of my life but that is not it, I love the song and Sam Sparro so now I know exactly what song I’m going to do! Thank god!

The Midnight Charter

The book I’m reading at the moment is called the Midnight Charter and it’s from an English author called David Whitley, theirs is his first book.
It’s about an 11 year old boy called Mark who is sold by his father due to a plague and lack of recourses. He is sent to the castle of Count Stelli and is used as a servant there along with another girl called Lily. When he turns 12 he can own himself and make his own decisions. He can free himself onto the streets or stay in the castle and live as a faithful servant. Lily has chosen to stay because they give them a roof to live under and hot food to eat, but it is a tough decision between freedom and safety. They choose freedom but they don’t know how to get out of the castle but that’s not the end of their problems, the ruler of the city is watching them and making sure they are kept as servants. How will they get out of what he has in store for them I will let you find out yourself?
If you want a book that you can’t put down and with a lot of thrill this is the book for you! I rate it 4 1/2 stars.

High Flyers

This terms high flyer I discussed with my mum, she picked some out and said I should do them which was alright. My mum also said just to try my hardest and even if I don’t get it it’s good to know I tried. I haven’t been able to work much on it cause I went on a holiday but Im sure I’ll still get it done, if I work hard.

Swimming

This week we had swimming lessons, it was pretty cold but lots of fun. We mainly swam and did diving but we also did some really fun things like playing around in the water and swimming to the bottem of the pool.

Personal Research Project

This term we have been assigned a project that could be on any topic we choose. I have chose to do it on the Carribean because I hardly know anything about it and I think it’s a very pretty place. I think it will be really interesting to reseach because it has a fare bit of history behind it. I’ve decided to presentate it in a power point and maybe a collage to go with it. I hope I can get it done well and give alot of information to the class.

Inquiry Storyboard!

During our Inquiry work in class we read a dreamtime story that was about the Murray Cod (ponde). The story was about how the Murray was made and how they speared Ponde and then dived into Lake Alexandrina. Here it is! sorry it’s the wrong way around I can’t turn it around.

Semester 1 interviews!!

On the 22nd of June I had my parent, student, teacher interview and it went really well. I first did a short oral presentation for them to tell them what I would be showing tonight, my favourite subjects and my goal for 2nd semester. After that we all just talked about how things were going and I showed them my tesselation and my Inquiry story board. Overall I think the interview went really well and I am happy about how it was set out and I hope the next one will be as succesful.

Reading/Literacy

During our reading/literacy time our teacher reads us Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. While she reads we are to pick up interesting words or phrases such as: gliding, A million golden mirrors, swept and many more. We then write a paragraph that is re-writing the story using a few of the interesting words to make an interesting paragraph. This is one of mine.

                                                     The 3′ps farewell

My dad said, “They have to go” very sternly and I knew he meant it. I felt I couldn’t let them go, especially Mr Percival because he was my best friend. Dad than said, “We will put them in the fish baskets and then let them out into the sanctuary”. As we got onto the boat it was an awkward silence and time went really slowly . I hugged Mr Percival and let the others fly away. They looked beautiful like flying diamonds in the sky. I then slowly put Mr Percival in the water and he paddled hard and then flew away, he’s clean feathers were so white and beautiful it was like a dream to watch him. I was about to cry but turned away because tough guys don’t cry.
