Semester 1 interviews!!
On the 22nd of June I had my parent, student, teacher interview and it went really well. I first did a short oral presentation for them to tell them what I would be showing tonight, my favourite subjects and my goal for 2nd semester. After that we all just talked about how things were going and I showed them my tesselation and my Inquiry story board. Overall I think the interview went really well and I am happy about how it was set out and I hope the next one will be as succesful.
Reading/Literacy
During our reading/literacy time our teacher reads us Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. While she reads we are to pick up interesting words or phrases such as: gliding, A million golden mirrors, swept and many more. We then write a paragraph that is re-writing the story using a few of the interesting words to make an interesting paragraph. This is one of mine.
The 3′ps farewell
My dad said, “They have to go” very sternly and I knew he meant it. I felt I couldn’t let them go, especially Mr Percival because he was my best friend. Dad than said, “We will put them in the fish baskets and then let them out into the sanctuary”. As we got onto the boat it was an awkward silence and time went really slowly . I hugged Mr Percival and let the others fly away. They looked beautiful like flying diamonds in the sky. I then slowly put Mr Percival in the water and he paddled hard and then flew away, he’s clean feathers were so white and beautiful it was like a dream to watch him. I was about to cry but turned away because tough guys don’t cry.
Maths
In the past week we have been focusing on drawring circles with a compus and what parts of the circles are called, we then had to explain what they were without using any pictures or diagrams. These are some of the things I said; Circumferance- A circumference is the perimeter around a circle, Chords; Chords are any lines thet go from one part of the circumference to another without passing through the centre point, Diameter- the diameter is a line that goes from one side of the circumference to another passing through the centre point and radius (radii)- is half of the diameter or a line going from one part of the circumference to the centre point. Tell me what you think of my meanings.
Abstract Art
Lately in our art lessons we have been learning about Abstract Art. We have based our art on the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky. Wassily Kandinsky makes his art work out of shapes, he is known to be one of the best early abstract artists. Our class made our abstract art out of circles, we had a choice of 3-4 colours and I choose black, pink and green. I made an art piece that I called modern art because it was a picture of a bug that did not exist and I was trying to say that everything will change in the future.
High Flyers
At our school there is a thing called a high flyer and year 7’s strive to get one at the end of each term. This term (term 1) we have to do all these things to get one;

Constructive and positive feedback to others via blog comments.
Alittle tough but just manigable, hopefully next term we will get the criteria earlier.
Inquiry Assignment Reflection
Some of the challenges I had were drawring and creating the picture. Originally i it was going to be done on photoshop but I couldn’t figure out how to move a cropped piece onto another photo, so I just printed the picture off and crated it by hand. What I found most interesting was how hard it was to come up with an idea for the picture. While I was working on it I felt like I was going knowhere an that I would never finish it but I did. I didn’t use any support on my original piece of work but when I was doing it on photo shop I used help from our librarian and 3 students.
Inquiry Assignment
Our class got given an Inquiry Assignment and we had to pick a quote, explain it and match a picture to it.
Explanation:
‘Good Leaders must first become good servants’ Robert Greenleaf
This quote stood out to me because it says a lot in a short amount of words.
My opinion is that a leader works for people and people don’t work for them. That’s why I believe that this quote sums it all up, because servants work for people and do things for them and that’s what a leader should do. A great leader only thinks team and how to help others. A good servant is always loyal to the person they are providing their services to. Being loyal is an action you should take if you are a leader.
An example of a leader doing this would be a volunteer fire-fighter, they risk their own lives to save others. So that’s why I believe every leader should have this quality to do things for others and not expect people to do things for them.
Are leaders made or born?
What do you think? I think it is a bit of both actually. Because leaders are confident people and aren’t afraid to say what they think and that could be made but you could be born in the worst circumstances and have no leaders around you to give you examples, but you are still a leader because you try and change things.
People follow leaders because they are confident and honest and these qualities you will learn in life and won’t be born with.
Week 9 quote
The quote:
” The only way to have a friend is to be one.”
R Emerson
I completely agree with this quote. If you look at it logicaly, no other way is possible. Another way of saying it is “there is no friend in one”. This quote is only not true if you have a so called friend that doesn’t like you but that hardly ever happens. I believe that this quote is very true and very simple eg. you don;t really have to think about it. Just quickly have you knowtest most people that don’t have friends are the grumpy ones, that’s because they can’t be a friend. If you haven’t noticed then have a look around and you will see.
